Danny Kingsbury joins Torres Media Group

Danny Kingsbury

Danny Kingsbury is coming out of retirement to join Torres Media Group as Executive Programming Advisor.

Kingsbury had a radio career spanning over four decades, prior to announcing his retirement from Rogers Sports & Media in late 2019. He had been with Rogers since 1999, initially serving as general manager for Rogers’ Radio stations in Ottawa, Kingston and Halifax, going on to hold the title of National Format Director for Rock Radio. Kingsbury started his radio career at 1080 CKSA Lloydminster, AB in 1978, and soon moved on to CHAB Moose Jaw, SK, kicking off an 11-year run as an announcer and PD with Moffat Communications that took him to 630 CHED Edmonton and CITI FM Winnipeg. He went on to spend one year as PD of CFNY-FM Toronto in 1989-90 before joining WIC as VP of Programming. Prior to joining Rogers, he was PD of 92.5 CISS-FM Toronto.

“We are excited to have Danny guiding our station programming. His knowledge of radio, our formats and his vast experience will give us industry leading insight” said Ed Torres, Group CEO, in a company announcement.

“I’ve long admired Torres Media and the way they operate,” Kingsbury added. “Their group is fiercely entrepreneurial, creative and community focussed. I look forward to help build on their impressive success of growing audiences and serving clients.”

Tim Wieczorek

Kingsbury’s appointment comes as Tim Wieczorek, the company’s Executive Vice President, leaves his position at the end of this week to be closer to family. Wieczorek will continue to consult for the company for the foreseeable future from his home base in Kingston.

Among Kingsbury’s responsibilities will be advising on Programming for all four Torres Media stations – Rebel 101.7 (CIDG-FM) Ottawa, 103.1 Max FM (CKOD-FM) Valleyfield, QC, K Country 93.7 (CKOU-FM) Georgina, ON, and 105.5 Hits FM (CIUX-FM) Uxbridge, ON – which previously fell under Wieczorek’s domain.

Torres told Broadcast Dialogue that between the addition of Kingsbury, and Wieczorek continuing to consult, the company is in a good position continuity-wise.

Torres Media also operates a number of digital properties and the SkyWords Traffic Network, the largest Canadian syndicator of traffic programming.
