Corus’ Curiouscast leads 2020 Canadian Podcast Award wins

The Canadian Podcast Awards, which are backed by the folks behind Podcamp Toronto and voted on by approved member podcasters from across the country, has unveiled its 2020 award winners.

Corus Entertainment’s Curiouscast podcast network came away with multiple wins, including two awards for Dark Poutine, which claimed the honours for Outstanding True Crime Series and Outstanding Documentary. Curiouscast’s History of the 90s, hosted by Kathy Kenzora, also won in two categories – Outstanding Debut for a Series and Outstanding Production for a Series. The network also won the Outstanding Education Series category for Super Awesome Science Show.

Rogers’ Frequency network took home two awards with The Coup winning Best Business Series and Rob Ford deep dive The Gravy Train claiming Outstanding Artwork for a Series.

Independent, Toronto-based series The Bed Post Podcast, a frank exploration of sex and sexuality hosted by Erin Pim, won both the People’s Choice Award and Outstanding Main Title Theme.

Jocelyn Geddie of I Hate It But I Love It, won Best Host in a Series.

Mark Blevis was this year’s winner of the Goyetche Award, named for late Canadian podcasting pioneer Bob Goyetche, which recognizes podcasters who’ve made an impact and helped grow the community. Blevis, a digital public affairs strategist and consultant, who also conducts and oversees research into the role of the participatory web in public affairs, politics, and digital influence, is one of the co-founders of the now defunct Podcasters Across Borders conference, which ran annually from 2006 to 2012.
