CMW delegation heads to South Africa

A Canadian Music Week (CMW) delegation heads to South Africa this week with an eye to furthering trade and business opportunities between our two countries.

Neill Dixon

The delegation, which includes CMW President Neill Dixon; Rudy Blair, Rudy Blair Media; Bruce Bradley, Slammin Radio; Tomi Sanni, RnB Radar; Richard Mills, Global Creative Partners; and Julz Ossom, African Music Week – will attend South Africa Music Week in Soweto, Nov. 16-18, building on the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Music and the Arts (CAAMA) “Spotlight” initiative. The group will appear on panels and meet with conference participants who are part of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).

“This remarkable trip is just the beginning as we plan to spotlight the 16 nations of the Southern African Development Community at the CAAMA International Marketplace at CMW 2023,” said Dixon, in a release. “We look forward to building on the work we started in 2019, that was interrupted by COVID, as part of our international export strategy.”

Rudy Blair

In addition to a live panel discussion, hosted by Blair, CMW will present a video featuring Canadian music industry leaders including Catharine Saxberg, SOCAN; Andrew Cash, Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA); Miranda Mulholland, Music Canada; Erin Benjamin, Canadian Live Music Association; Keziah Myers, ADVANCE – Canada’s Black Music Business Collective; Paul Shaver, Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA); Meg Symsyk, FACTOR; Margaret McGuffin, Music Publishers Canada; and Marina Adam, Ontario Music Office at Ontario Creates.
