The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) is staging a series of webcasts, hosted by Anna Maria Tremonti, that will focus on the critical role of journalism in the COVID-19 crisis.
The first in the series of ‘J-Talk Live‘ specials – an expansion of the foundation’s J-Talks series exploring pressing media issues – will feature BuzzFeed senior reporter Jane Lytvynenko on Recognizing Disinformation Amidst COVID-19. Streaming Thursday, Apr. 9 at 1 p.m. ET, Lytvynenko and Tremonti will explore disinformation around the coronavirus outbreak, including online rumours, propaganda fuelling panic and anxiety, as well as false cures that have led to death. To receive the webcast link, journalists are asked to register for the event.
“Offering J-Talks through this new webinar series reflects the CJF’s ongoing commitment to working together for better journalism,” said Natalie Turvey, CJF president and executive director, in a release. “This program pivot to the Web is based on audience feedback around the need to stay connected in discussing pressing news coverage issues and its importance to democracy at a time when journalism matters more than ever. We’re grateful to Anna Maria and to our featured speakers for lending their time and expertise to the series.”
André Picard, award-winning health reporter and columnist for The Globe and Mail, will be the featured guest on the next webcast in the series, Apr. 23.
