630 CHED Edmonton has unveiled its new morning show team as longtime host Bruce Bowie’s retirement approaches Aug. 30.

The Corus news/talk station announced today that starting Sept. 3, Chelsea Bird and Shaye Ganam will helm the show.

If Bird’s name sounds familiar, it may be her appearance as a house guest on Season 7 of Big Brother Canada. Bird has also done on-air stints as the afternoon drive host on CHED sister station 103.9 CISN Country (CISN-FM) Edmonton, in addition to hosting mornings on 104.9 Virgin Radio (CFMG-FM). She and co-host Ian McKinnon were part of layoffs across the Bell Media chain last November. Bird is also host of Edmonton-filmed music talent search show The Moment, set to debut this fall on Channel M.

Shaye Ganam is a local staple on Global Edmonton as co-host of both Global News Morning and Global News at Noon. He’s been with the station since 1998 after starting his career with CTV Saskatoon and then Calgary.

“While following in the footsteps of radio legend Bruce Bowie is no small feat, I am absolutely thrilled to continue my career in radio broadcasting on 630 CHED Mornings,” said Chelsea Bird, in a release. “I have tremendous respect for Shaye Ganam, and I can’t wait to co-host with him every morning.”

“Although it is bittersweet to see such an impressive broadcaster like Bruce [Bowie] retire, we are excited for Chelsea and Shaye to wow our listeners,” added Syd Smith, Program Director, Corus Radio Edmonton. “They each bring a unique skillset that is certain to create an engaging and thought-provoking style of radio.”

630 CHED Mornings with Chelsea Bird and Shaye Ganam will air weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
