CBC’s Workin’ Moms has earned its second consecutive International Emmy nomination.

The International Emmy Awards, or iEmmys, are bestowed by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), and recognize television programming initially produced and aired outside the United States.

Nominated in the Comedy category, Workin’ Moms is the lone Canadian nominee at this year’s awards. Season 2 of the show is in the running against Netflix Brazil’s Especial De Natal Porta Dos Fundos (The Last Hangover), Singapore TV series FAM!, and Israeli production Kupa Rashit (Checkout!).

Created by Catherine Reitman, who also serves as co-executive producer, stars and directs, the half-hour scripted mommy comedy centres around a group of women who return to work after maternity leave. Based loosely on some of Reitman’s own experiences as a working mother, Workin’ Moms was picked up by Netflix globally earlier this year.

The series earned nine 2019 Canadian Screen Award nominations, including Best Comedy Series. The ensemble cast, which features Reitman, Dani Kind, Juno Rinaldi, and Reitman’s husband Philip Sternberg, was also nominated for a 2019 ACTRA Toronto Award for Outstanding Performance – Ensemble. Sternberg co-executive produces, alongside Reitman, under the banner of their production company Wolf + Rabbit. He also directed a number of episodes over the second and third seasons.

Season 4 is set to start airing on CBC this winter.
