CBC unveils fall podcast slate

David Ridgen, the host of CBC Podcasts' Someone Knows Something.

CBC has unveiled its fall slate of original podcasts, featuring a new series on Celine Dion, a first-person account of vision loss, and the return of true crime exploration Someone Knows Something, focused on the disappearance of a Hanover, ON teen.

Season 9 of Someone Knows Something digs in to the Christine Harron case, who left for school in May 1993 and was never seen again. Launching Nov. 6, host David Ridgen, along with Christine’s mother, reopen the investigation and come face to face with the man who said he killed Chrissy.

Uncover: Bad Results, launching Oct. 28, explores the chaos that ensued following bad results from a Toronto company offering prenatal paternity tests promising “99% accuracy.” Hosts Jorge Barrera and Rachel Houlihan talk to people whose lives were torn apart by those bad results.

Personally: Short Sighted, making its debut Nov. 19, sees host and former VICE Contributing Editor Graham Isador use audio to explain vision loss to a sighted audience. Scored by Christopher Ross-Ewart, the latest season of the memoir podcast combines personal storytelling, humour, journalistic interviews, and experimental sound design to immerse audiences in the surprising and frustrating world of visual impairment. Each episode uses a story about Graham’s vision loss as a jumping-off point for larger conversations about accessibility and blindness.

Celine: Understood, hosted by Montrealer and Celine Dion expert Thomas Leblanc, explores the combination cultural, political and business alchemy that led to the Canadian icon’s international stardom. The four-episode offering launches Oct. 15.

Nick van der Kolk

Split Screen: Thrill Seekers, a six-part series hosted by award-winning podcaster Nick van der Kolk (Love + Radio), has also made its debut, exploring the impact of a British dating reality show that caused contestants to struggle to determine what is real? It includes interviews with former contestants, crew and set designers taking listeners behind the scenes of the reality TV experiment.

Additionally, Personal Best has returned for a third, six-episode season, hosted by Rob Norman and Andrew Norton, as they help ordinary people work through the little things they’d never bring to a life coach — like having the courage to dine alone at a fancy restaurant or getting less awkward at handshakes.

CBC’s podcast collection can be found on CBC Listen and everywhere podcasts are available. Select titles can also be streamed on YouTube.

Ongoing CBC podcasts include Commotion with Elamin Abdelmahmoud, Crime Story, The Dose, Front Burner, Q with Tom Power and Sickboy.
