CBC has announced new additions to its winter audio schedule that include the debut of a live Saturday afternoon call-in show on CBC Radio One and CBC Listen.

Just Asking will air live across the country at 5 p.m. ET (6 p.m. AT/4 p.m. CT/3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT), starting Feb. 24, hosted by Saroja Coelho.

The former foreign correspondent will be joined by guest experts, aiming to help listeners make decisions about tech, money, their careers and health, drawing from the week’s news and latest trends. In addition to live calls, the show will take voice notes and texts from listeners. A podcast version of Just Asking will drop the same day as the broadcast on CBC Listen and other podcast platforms.

“I am thrilled to be part of this fantastic team and look forward to the challenging questions we’ll hear from every corner of the country,” said Coelho, in a CBC announcement. “I hope to create a home for genuine curiosity and a diversity of perspectives, while occasionally having a laugh too…because live radio can be wonderful and a little bonkers.”

Coelho will also continue to host Mornings on CBC Music four days a week (Tuesday to Friday) with singer-songwriter Damhnait Doyle helming the show on Mondays, in addition to continuing her current role as host of Weekend Mornings.

New CBC Podcasts making their debut in March include Who Replaced Avril Lavigne? Joanne McNally Investigates.

Premiering March 6, the six-episode co-production from CBC Podcasts and BBC Sounds explores the conspiracy theory claiming the Canadian pop singer was replaced by a look-alike at the height of her fame. Comedian Joanne McNally immerses herself in the world of fake celebrity deaths and doppelgangers in an effort to understand how the rumour started, and if there’s any truth to it.

The Pornhub Empire: Understood, launching March 11, pulls back the curtain on the Montreal startup and the massive scandal that exposed non-consensual sharing and underage images on the platform. The four-episode series is hosted by journalist Samantha Cole (How Sex Changed the Internet and The Internet Changed Sex).

The Secret Life of Canada also returns with 12 new episodes on Feb. 22, exploring the politeness of Canadians, popular teen drama Degrassi, the history of the CBC, and more.

CBC’s annual book debate Canada Reads gets underway across the public broadcaster’s platforms, March 4-7, with this year’s champions defending their choices at 10 a.m. ET on CBC Radio/1 p.m. ET on CBC TV, and available on demand later each day on CBC Gem, and as a podcast on CBC Listen.
