The Guild of Music Supervisors, Canada (GMSC), in collaboration with Departure Festival + Conference, has announced this year’s Canadian Sync Awards nominees, celebrating the craft of music supervision in filmed media.
Set to take place on Tuesday, May 6 at Annabel’s Music Hall in Toronto, among this year’s multiple nominees are music supervisors Andrea Higgins (The Trades, Sight Unseen, Heartland, Wynonna Earp: Vengeance), Heather Gardner/Telan Wong (My Dead Mom, Drive Back Home, Christmas with the Singhs), Michael Perlmutter (North Of North, We Forgot To Break Up, Born Hungry), Natasha Duprey (Heretic, The Monkey, Allegiance, Snowpiercer, Girls State), Scotty Taylor (My Old Ass, Deaner), and Valerie Biggin (Hot Frosty, BRATS).
Additionally, the 2025 Impact Award will be presented to Broken Social Scene, bestowed upon an individual or group to celebrate a lifetime of contributions and influence on music, culture, community, self-expression, vision, and prominence in the sync world.
“Soundtracks have been a guiding force for this band when approaching our music. So much of life is a story that needs emotional melodies to help find meaning in how it all plays out,” said Kevin Drew, Broken Social Scene co-founder, in a release. “We are happy to be recognized for the songs we have been able to bring into the community of film and television, a community that has played a major role in helping us find a larger audience throughout the years.”
The Canadian Sync Awards also feature “The Huey” Award, honouring legendary Canadian music supervisor David Hayman, who passed away in May 2020.
“The Huey,” which includes a $1,500 honorarium, is given to an aspiring music supervisor who has passion for the craft. Submissions are open until April 18.
