Canadian Screen Award winners: Broadcast News, Documentary & Factual

The Canadian Screen Awards got underway Monday night with the Broadcast News Awards and Documentary & Factual Awards.

Among the Broadcast News winners, APTN Investigates claimed two awards, including Best News or Information Series, while Tina House of APTN National News was named Best National Reporter. CTV Toronto News at Six took Best Local Newscast, while CBC’s The National claimed Best National Newscast. 

The Documentary & Factual Awards were led by TVO documentary Ghosts of Afghanistan, which won Best Social/Political Documentary Program and Crave doc Oscar Peterson: Black + White, which was recognized for Best Visual Research, Best Direction, and Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program. TVO also picked up two awards for original nature doc, Borealis. 

The next group of winners will be announced Tuesday with the Sports Programming Awards and the Digital & Immersive Awards.
