Canadian Music Week adds new RadioActive awards

Nominations are open for Canadian Music Week’s RadioActive Awards, which this year will include new categories, including Broadcast Executive of the Year and Podcast of the Year.

Set to be handed out at the inaugural Canadian Radio & Audio Awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 20 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, the awards will celebrate and recognize achievement in Canadian radio and audio over the past year. They’ll be hosted by Toronto comedian Adam Growe, the host of Cash Cab.

The full list of awards and their criteria follows. The deadline for nominations is Mar. 28.

Program Director of the Year – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Programming – provide highlights over the eligibility period.
  • Career Development – examples of team building, talent relations, assistance in developing a personality success story.
  • Business Performance – developing new business, assisting with generation of sales.
  • Promotions – overview of promotion highlight(s) over the eligibility period.
  • Ratings – Outline of performance in terms of share.

Music Director of the Year – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Accessibility – for promo calls, meetings and providing feedback recognized by both staff and industry as a team player in all aspects of the radio station.
  • Ears/Hit Picker – reputation for fair evaluation of new product as well as picking and making the hits.
  • Profile – effort to attend shows and industry events relative to the market and industry
  • Extra Mile – takes the extra step to expose or champion a Canadian artist.

On-Air Talent of the Year – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Ratings – Outline of performance in terms of share with target demos (12+ average over the last 12 months using NUMERIS data)
  • Community Involvement – Show they are accessible and care about investing in the community.
  • Air Check – 2:00- 3:00 minutes in MP3 format, with a maximum file size of 5MB.

 Excellence in Commercial Creative & Production – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Originality (unique, creative)
  • Production (great use of)
  • Message clarity
  • Listener engagement

 Community and Public Service Campaign – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Impact/relevance and benefit to the community
  • Station resources, initiative and involvement
  • Creativity, originality and imagination
  • Production quality

 Promotion of the Year – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Creativity, originality and imagination
  • Station resources, initiative and involvement
  • Benefits station, listeners, sponsors and/or revenue
  • Multi-faceted & run cross platforms

Music Station of the Year – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Ratings – outline of performance in terms of share with target demos (12+ average over the last 12 months using NUMERIS data)
  • Community Service – outline the greatest single or continuing contribution to the community in the calendar year for 2019
  • Building Canadian Talent – outline the station’s contribution to the assistance of building Canadian talent on radio. Note: For talk radio, this outline should be based on coverage for special events.
  • Exceptional Performance or Achievement – outline the station’s performance highlights for 2019.

Non-Music Station of the Year – (Major & Secondary Markets)

  • Ratings – outline performance in terms of share with target demos (12+ average over the last 12 months using NUMERIS data)
  • Community Service – outline the greatest single or continuing contribution to the community in the 2019 calendar year
  • Local Coverage – entry should include station coverage of special events in your market.
  • Exceptional Performance or Achievement – outline the station’s performance highlights in 2019

Francophone Music Station of the Year – (All Markets)

  • Ratings – outline of performance in terms of share with target demos (12+ average over the last 12 months using NUMERIS data)
  • Community Service – outline the greatest single or continuing contribution to the community in the calendar year for 2019

  • Community Service – outline the greatest single or continuing contribution to the community in the calendar year for 2019
  • Building Canadian Talent – outline the station’s contribution to the assistance of building Canadian talent on radio. Note: For talk radio, this outline should be based on coverage for special events.
  • Exceptional Performance or Achievement – outline the station’s performance highlights for 2019.

 Broadcast Executive of the Year – (All Markets)

  • Y/Y ratings performance for the company’s station or cluster of stations
  • Outstanding community and public service achievements over the past year
  • Identify all station recognition/awards received in the past year
  • New operational innovations introduced to the company
  • Examples of great people and culture initiatives, including diversity in the workplace
  • Overall contribution to the broadcast industry in terms of support and participation in various industry undertakings

 Podcast of the Year – (All Markets)

Winner to be determined by a national online survey among a representative sample of Canadian podcast listeners conducted by Audience Insights Inc.  No entries or nominations required.
