Blackburn Radio rebrands as ‘Blackburn Media’

Blackburn Radio Inc. is the latest broadcast group to announce it’s dropping “radio” from its name.

Effective today, the company will be known as Blackburn Media Inc., following the lead of Pattison Media (formerly Jim Pattison Broadcast Group) and Evanov Communications (formerly Evanov Radio Group).

“As the news, entertainment and digital engagements with our company partners and communities grow and evolve, the name change signifies the ongoing evolution of the Blackburn Company to provide the level of content and engagement they expect,” said Blackburn President Ron Dann, in a company announcement.

“Blackburn Radio has a long history of serving great communities in Mid- and Southwestern Ontario. Our mission is to connect people and build communities with an innovative blend of on-air, online, interactive and mobile media services. We have been working in the digital arena successfully for over a decade now and the change to Blackburn Media reflects that transformation and growth, establishing a clear path for the company moving forward,” added Walter Ploegman, Director of Operations.

The rebrand is accompanied by the introduction of a new logo that the company says reflects its new evolution and direction. The family-owned media company, which was founded in 1852, has spanned newspaper publishing, radio, television, database marketing and digital media over the course of five generations.

Blackburn Media currently operates 13 radio stations across Ontario in London, Windsor, Sarnia, Chatham, Wingham and Leamington, in addition to five local news portals and podcasts.
