APTN, CBC/Radio-Canada, and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see the three partners work collaboratively on the annual production of national broadcast, Remembering the Children: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Supported by Canadian Heritage, the live, 90-minute event on Sept. 30, will honour residential school survivors and pay tribute to the children who never made it home.
Presented in English, French, and Plains Cree, it will be broadcast from Parliament Hill on APTN, APTN Languages, aptnnews.ca, CBC TV, CBC News Network, CBC Gem,CBC News Explore, cbcnews.ca, CBC News app, CBC NewsYouTube channel, ICI TÉLÉ, ICI TOU.TV, Radio-Canada.ca, and Espaces autochtones, and made available to all Canadian broadcasters.
Participating networks include Blue Ant Media: T+E, Makeful, Cottage Life, Smithsonian and BBC; The Canadian Press; CHCH TV; CityTV in Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg; CPAC; CTV2; Hollywood Suite; Inuit TV; Knowledge Network; OUTtv; TFO; and Unis TV, in addition to radio partners CKRZ 100.3 FM Ohsweken, ON; 95.7 ELMNT FM (CFPO-FM) Ottawa and 106.5 ELMNT FM (CFPT-FM) Toronto; 96.9 FM Radio Humber (CKHC-FM) Toronto; NCI FM (heard from Winnipeg to Churchill, MB); and MBC Radio. The broadcast will also be available for streaming on APTN lumi on Oct. 2.
Hosted by APTN’s Earl Wood and Danielle Rochette, the multilingual event will encompass reflections from survivors and performances by First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists including Tom Jackson, Diyet & The Love Soldiers, Andrina Turenne and Jessica McMann.
APTN News will present a 30-minute pre-show live from Ottawa at 2:30 p.m. ET, hosted by Dennis Ward. In Winnipeg, Creeson Agecoutay will host in-studio with special guest Geraldine Shingoose, a residential school survivor. The network will broadcast 24 hours of special programming, spanning series and documentaries including Every Child Matters: Reconciliation Through Education, Reconciliation & Me, Pour toi Flora and the world broadcast premiere of WaaPaKe (Tomorrow).
CBC Radio One will also broadcast evening programming at 8 p.m./8:30 p.m. NT, featuring highlights from the events earlier in the day.
