The Role

Based in Ottawa and reporting to the Executive Producer, CPAC is seeking a francophone Anchor/Journalist to join our editorial team, whose main assignment is to write, research, and host CPAC’s daily political program L’Essentiel and Headline Politics. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is keenly interested in news and public affairs and engages in the unique needs of different audiences across all platforms. The chosen individual will possess excellent on-camera skills and understands and maintains current knowledge of the Canadian political system.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write, research, and host a daily French language public affairs program (currently titled L’Essentiel);
  • Write, research, co-produce and host episodes of a French language interview program (currently titled Conversations);
  • Work on-air as anchor, host, reporter, narrator for special coverage and events, including, but not limited to, breaking political news, political conventions, elections, debates and other public affairs forums;
  • Participate in promotional activities to increase awareness of the employer in French Canadian markets;
  •  Collaborate with show producers on the journalistic and aesthetic development of program, story and segments;
  • Conduct and supervise research and identify potential story/program focus, guests, visual elements, treatment;
  • Maintain necessary program files and records;
  • Participate in staff, program and other corporate meetings as required;
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required):

  • A university degree or equivalent with 10 years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of Ottawa and Parliament Hill and of the broadcasting industry.
  • Travel required;
  • Excellent French language skills with working knowledge of English (spoken and written);
  • Understands and maintains current knowledge of the Canadian political system, and of current and emerging issues and trends;
  • Understands the legislative and regulatory framework and organizations within the Canadian Broadcasting System;
  • Has excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Has excellent on-camera reading and presentation skills;
  • Has strong project management skills and experience;
  • Has excellent broadcast and business writing skills;
  • Operates software for project management, word processing, databases, and presentation;
  • Collects and analyzes relevant data to make accurate and timely decisions on a variety of production and journalistic issues;
  • Develops and maintains positive work relationships with staff, co-workers, managers, consultants, talent, the public and contacts;
  • Intervenes diplomatically to determine or mediate a solution when encountering difficult or confrontational situations;
  • Promotes an environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes diversity of employees.
