2023 Canadian Screen Awards: Comedic & Dramatic Arts

The 2023 Canadian Screen Award winners in the Comedic & Dramatic Arts categories were presented Friday evening in Toronto, the final awards show of the week.

Recognizing the best of television performance and craft categories, CBC and BET+ period drama The Porter took home a record 12 awards, the most for any television show in Canadian Screen Awards history, including
Best Drama Series; Best Direction, Drama Series; Best Writing, Drama Series; and Best Guest Performance, Drama Series for Alfre Woodward.
Hamza Haq captured Best Lead Performer, Drama Series for CTV’s Transplant, his third consecutive win in the category.

CBC’s Sort Of took home seven awards, including Best Comedy Series; Best Lead Performer, Comedy for Bilal Baig; Best Guest Performance, Comedy for Amanda Brugel; and Best Writing, Comedy, for Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, marking back-to-back wins for the duo. TallBoyz, Pretty Hard Cases and the 2022 JUNO Awards broadcast also picked up multiple awards.

Special Award recipients included Ryan Reynolds, the recipient of the Humanitarian Award, Catherine O’Hara, recipient of the Academy Icon Award, Radius Award honouree Simu Liu, Earle Grey award recipient Peter MacNeill, and Jennifer Podemski, who was presented with this year’s Academy Board of Directors’ Tribute Award.
