Mark Sutcliffe moving out of 1310 Ottawa mid-mornings, Rob Snow to step in

Mark Sutcliffe, host of Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe on Rogers’ 1310 NEWS (CIWW-AM), has announced he’s taking a step back from doing his daily four-hour mid-morning talk show to host a one-hour noon version, beginning in the New Year.

Rob Snow

Former CFRA Ottawa midday talk host Rob Snow, who was part of the latest round of layoffs at Bell Media and had been a fixture on 1310’s competitor for two decades, will take over the 9 a.m. – noon show.

Sutcliffe will host his last broadcast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 in a special farewell show. He’ll continue to be heard on the station in the noon to 1 p.m. timeslot.

In a news release, Sutcliffe said he’s looking forward to spending more time with his family, and focusing more on writing, volunteering, and entrepreneurship. A presence on Ottawa radio since the 1980s, Sutcliffe is also the author of four books and has founded several media properties, including the Ottawa Business Journal and Kitchissippi Times community newspaper. Additionally, he’s a partner in boutique consulting firm Sutcliffe+Whalen.

“I’m doing this for a few reasons: First, the truth is that I’m a little too busy. I enjoy everything I do and I have a hard time saying no. Also, I’ve always liked being busy and active. But my life has become a bit of a high-wire act and it really isn’t sustainable,” said Sutcliffe in a Twitter thread thanking listeners.

“The second reason is that I’m starting to have more opportunities as an entrepreneur and I’m finding that really enjoyable and rewarding. Ottawa has a thriving business community right now…and I’m involved in a few companies, I’m coaching some business owners and executives and I’m doing some work with @Invest_Ottawa. And there are other new opportunities that I’m very excited about. So I’m looking forward to spending more time in that space,” he continued.

A 2016 inductee of the Order of Ottawa, Sutcliffe has been with 1310 News for the last four years. He previously hosted the CFRA morning show for almost a decade, in addition to contributing a regular column to the Ottawa Citizen and acting as the paper’s executive editor for two years. He’s also had a presence on CPAC for the last 10 years and continues to host daily podcast CPAC Today in Politics.

Snow will host his first 9 a.m. – noon show on 1310 News on Monday, Jan. 13.
