The Weather Network launches AI-powered ‘Your Weather Assistant’

Pelmorex Corp., parent company of The Weather Network, MétéoMédia, Eltiempo.es, Clima, and Otempo.pt weather brands, has announced the launch of a new generative-AI powered tool offering personalized weather recommendations.

Your Weather Assistant, currently available on The Weather Network app and online in English, with French and Spanish language capabilities in development, blends weather data with language learning to provide users with real-time information. Using data from The Weather Network forecast centre in its answers, Pelmorex says the underpinning technology results in highly-tailored output aimed at answering a specific user query.

Patent-pending, recommendations Your Weather Assistant can provide include personalized forecasts, weather-appropriate wardrobe suggestions, activity and travel recommendations, and historical weather information.

Pelmorex says this is the first in a series of innovations as the company positions itself as “an AI-frontiered weather and climate organization, with a focus on helping users and businesses make informed decisions using cutting-edge technology.”

“The introduction of this generative AI technology takes our users’ weather and climate related inquiry experience to the next level,” said Pelmorex President and CEO Dr. Nana Banerjee, in a company announcement. “It is a new paradigm that directly addresses the personalization needs of our users instead of having them compile bits of data or information from various sources.”

B2B weather risk offerings are a significant part of Pelmorex’s plans with the company announcing the appointment of Andy Rice as Managing Director of Business Solutions and Services earlier this month. Rice – former VP of Product and Analytics at The Weather Company and Chief Product Officer at Weather Central – is tasked, alongside the company’s senior leadership team, with developing a portfolio of business-to-business weather and climatology solutions aimed at addressing the unique needs of business, educational institutions, and government agencies.

“The initial insights derived from the consumer platform will be pivotal in setting the groundwork for Pelmorex’s AI-centric approach, which will empower its clients to efficiently handle weather-related risks in their operations through data-driven actionable solutions,” the company stated.
