SUM 41 bass player and backing vocalist Jason “Cone” McCaslin is set to debut a new weekly radio show on 94.9 The Rock (CKGE-FM) Oshawa, ON, starting April 17.
“Cone’s Cave,” an hour-long Sunday night music discovery show personally curated by the musician and producer, promises to feature tunes from punk to garage rock and metal.
The Greater Toronto Area Active Rock station says it was radio that introduced McCaslin to many of the influential bands that shaped his own musical tastes and career, and that love of of the medium will now see him come full circle from avid listener to host.
“Growing up in Ajax, I am excited to be joining Craig [Venn] & Lucky [Mike Luck], LoriAnn [Villani], Doug [Elliott] and Lee [Eckley] as a new addition to the talk stars at The Rock”, said McCaslin, in a station announcement. “I’ll be calling up my friends in music, movies and entertainment, to have some conversations about some of their songs, talk about past mutual stories and also get an idea of what influenced them early on in their career. It’ll be a chance to get inside their lives for a few minutes.”
Some of those interviews will happen backstage at festivals and shows as SUM 41 gets set to head out on the road in support of their new double album “Heaven + Hell,” including 36 U.S. dates with Simple Plan on the “Blame Canada” tour between April and August.
Heaven and Hell – the band’s eighth studio effort – is a double album with Heaven featuring pop-punk reminiscent of SUM 41’s early material, while Hell will be characteristic of the heavier sound they’ve become known for more recently.
In addition to his work with SUM 41, McCaslin has produced for bands like Toronto’s Sun K. and The Strumbellas, including their JUNO-nominated 2012 album My Father and the Hunter.
Cone’s Cave will be heard on 94.9 The Rock and The Rock app, beginning Sunday, April 17 at 7 p.m. ET.
