Sid Seixeiro leaving Sportsnet to join BT Toronto

Sportsnet personality Sid Seixeiro has announced he's leaving Tim & Sid, the radio & TV simulcast he's hosted alongside Tim Micallef since 2011, to join Citytv's Breakfast Television morning show.

Sportsnet personality Sid Seixeiro has announced he’s leaving Tim & Sid, the radio & TV simulcast he’s hosted alongside Tim Micallef since 2011, to join Citytv’s Breakfast Television morning show in Toronto as a co-host.

Seixeiro broke the news on Thursday’s show, saying that while he grew up dreaming of covering sports, as he’s gotten older his interests have expanded.

“Sports is a love of mine, it’s aways going to be a love of mine, but I felt like maybe there was another challenge out there,” Seixeiro told listeners. “One of the things the pandemic did teach me…is to no longer hesitate because life doesn’t care about your plans, man. So, an opportunity came up and I didn’t hesitate. It was unique, it was different, and only something like that would pull me away from literally being allowed with Tim to say whatever I want on air. That’s the freedom we’ve been allowed…”

Both Seixeiro and Micallef got emotional as they talked about their nearly 20-year on-air partnership.

“Anyone who watches the show or follows us on social media, knows that for us the last 10 or so months have come with, like many of you, a lot of reflection. So as Sid makes this announcement and I smile and I chuckle and I laugh, I get it,” said Micallef. “I’ve known for years, and I think a lot of the Tim & Sidizens who have been with us for awhile, recognize your want and need to spread your wings and fly…it’s bittersweet because I lose the guy that I laugh with all the time…so I’ll miss laughing a lot, but such is life and I understand and I get it.”

Tim & Sid originally started as a podcast before becoming an afternoon show on Sportsnet 590 The Fan (CJCL-AM) Toronto. The television simulcast launched in 2013 on The Score. It was relaunched on Sportsnet in 2015 and returned to simulcasting on The Fan in the fall of 2019 in late afternoon drive.

Seixeiro’s last day on Tim & Sid will be Feb. 26. Micallef will continue to anchor the 5 to 7 p.m. ET timeslot on Sportsnet television and radio, “alongside a rotating panel of friends of the show, until further details are announced,” according to a Rogers Sports & Media release.

Seixeiro will be seen across both shows over the next few weeks, sitting in with co-host Dina Pugliese and the rest of the BT Toronto team, until his first official day on March 10.

“Sid has great affection for Toronto and Canada and is deeply tapped into what’s in the hearts and on the minds of our viewers,” said Laura Reiter, Executive Producer, Breakfast Television, in a statement. “During the audition process, we immediately saw something special between Dina and Sid, that will offer our audiences both different and wildly entertaining perspectives on a diverse range of topics.”
