Contend, a content creation and marketing company in Canada and the U.S. that counts Amazon, Meta and Disney among its clients, has announced a strategic partnership with Postmedia Network to launch Postmedia Studios. Contend says the collaboration “seeks to harness the potential of Bill C-11, the Online Streaming Act,” with the platform to feature a slate of original programming from Canadian creators, including film, television and short-form formats, diving into both real-life stories and historical events, spanning true crime, sports heritage, and documentaries. All intellectual property will be created, owned, and produced by Canadians, focusing on amplifying Canadian stories through the Postmedia network, which will leverage its extensive content archives to license and co-produce new content.

Virtual Artifacts Inc. (VA) has announced the public release of its digital platform, Hibe. Combining search, content discovery and social interaction, the Hibe platform promises a similar experience to top news aggregators and social media platforms, allowing users to explore, share, and engage with stories from verified traditional media outlets as well as citizen journalists. The Montreal-based tech provider says Hibe is a compelling alternative to dominant social media platforms that have absorbed traditional media audiences, content and ad revenues, empowering publishers of all sizes to reclaim their earned audiences across social media.
