Shaun Majumder won’t be returning to This Hour Has 22 Minutes on CBC when the new season starts on Sept. 18.

The actor/comedian announced the news at his comedy, music and food festival The Gathering in his hometown of Burlington, NL over the weekend.

In a statement on Twitter, Majumder says the move is “due to creative differences” between himself and the Halifax producers, and that “the decision for my departure was not mine.”

“The show has been a Canadian cultural institution which I’ve always felt blessed to be part of,” wrote Majumder. “Over the years, my love for working on the show has grown, especially with our close knit 22 Minutes family. They are the best in television…Being surrounded by this family every week is what I will miss the most.”

Majumder joined the show in 2003. He shared a Gemini Award in 2006 with fellow cast members Cathy Jones, Gavin Crawford and Mark Critch for Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Program or Series. He left the program for one season in 2010 to star in ABC crime drama Detroit 1-8-7.

Majumder has pursued other projects outside 22 Minutes over the past few years including W Network reality series Majumder Manor, which followed the actor and his wife Shelby Fenner as they attempted to turn his rural Newfoundland hometown into a sustainable tourist destination.

Other film credits include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Ladies Man, and Pushing Tin.

Majumder ended his statement by saying he’s “super stoked to explore future creative endeavours.”
