Chris Scheetz departing Edmonton’s CISN Country after 35 years

Chris Scheetz is embarking on a new chapter, announcing Wednesday morning that he’s bidding farewell to Edmonton’s CISN Country 103.9 after more than three decades.

The five-time Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Personality of the Year, started working with the station on May 10, 1989 at the tender age of 18 in promotions. He’ll leave the station exactly 35 years to the day he began his radio career.

“It’s been the only radio station and real job I’ve ever had,” Scheetz wrote in a post to social media. “May 10th 2024 on my 35th anniversary, I’ve decided to close this chapter of my life. No words can describe how thankful I am that I’ve had a chance to live out this dream. As sad as this day is, I am also looking forward to the next chapter of my life with new challenges and dreams from a work perspective and most importantly our first grandchild. Our kids Baillie and Renato are expecting in early August.”

CISN called Scheetz “a cornerstone of our station, leaving an indelible mark on both our organization and the hearts of our listeners.”

“As the voice of CISN Country for over three decades, his presence has made him a beloved figure and established him as a household name throughout the Capital region,” a Corus Radio announcement continued. “Beyond his role as a radio host, Chris has been a passionate advocate for all our communities within CISN Country. Chris has used his platforms to raise millions of dollars for charities in many unique ways, always helping to rally for people in need. We don’t have to look further than 25 years of hosting the Corus Radiothon supporting the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, Yards for Hope, Dash for the Border, and campaigns supporting those impacted by floods and wildfires.”

Originally from the Thorsby, AB area, over his tenure with the station Scheetz, 53, held roles from relief receptionist and mascot to traffic reporter, music director and program director.

He’d been co-hosting the morning show for the last 15 years, enjoying healthy ratings. In the winter PPM release, the station led F18-34 listening in the market, delivering a 17.1% share.

In an emotional announcement, Scheetz emphasized that he’s not retiring, as he led into Garth Brooks’ The River.
