Catherine O’Hara to receive 2020 ACTRA National Award of Excellence

Schitt's Creek star and SCTV alum Catherine O'Hara has been named the recipient of the 2020 ACTRA National Award of Excellence.

Schitt’s Creek star and SCTV alum Catherine O’Hara has been named the recipient of the 2020 ACTRA National Award of Excellence, which annually recognizes an ACTRA member’s career achievements and contributions to the Canadian entertainment industry.

O’Hara has won four consecutive Canadian Screen Awards for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Moira Rose on CBC comedy Schitt’s Creek, in addition to the 2016 ACTRA Toronto Award for Outstanding Performance, a 2019 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and 2020 SAG Award nominations for both Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series by an Ensemble and Female Actor.

O’Hara began her comedy career at Toronto’s Second City and went on to help create iconic sketch comedy show SCTV, which earned her four Emmy nominations and one win for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program, alongside Schitt’s Creek collaborator Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty, John Candy, Andrea Martin, and others. Her extensive film and TV credits include Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, HBO miniseries Temple Grandin, and Six Feet Under. 

O’Hara will receive the award at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Saturday, Apr. 18.  

She joins past ACTRA National Award of Excellence winners, including 2019 honouree Jay Baruchel, Molly Parker, Kim Coates, Neve Campbell, and Jason Priestley.

ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national union of professional performers working in English-language recorded media in Canada. It represents over 25,000 members across the country.
