Broadcast Tech & Engineering News – Meta AI researchers publish whitepaper on ‘Voicebox’

Meta AI researchers say they have achieved a breakthrough in generative AI for speech with Voicebox, the first model that can generalize  speech-generation tasks it was not specifically trained to accomplish. Able to create outputs from scratch as well as modify a sample it’s given to produce high-quality audio clips, the model can synthesize speech across six languages, as well as perform noise removal, content editing, style conversion, and diverse sample generation. Meta says it recognizes the tech brings the potential for misuse, which is why it’s also built a classifier that can distinguish between authentic speech and audio generated with Voicebox to mitigate possible future risks. Because of those risks, it’s not making the Voicebox model or code publicly available at this time. Read the whitepaper here.
