As 2024 comes to a close, we here at Broadcast Dialogue are reflecting on a year that started with Bell announcing it’s divestiture of 45 radio stations and 4,800 staff, the closure of a number of AM stations as the year progressed, and significant cuts at Corus Entertainment, among other networks.
But this year also included the launch of new stations like GO Rock – the first dedicated radio station in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia; countless radiothons that raised millions for communities – including Alberta Day of Caring, which brought in more than $1.5 million for those impacted by the Jasper wildfires; and milestones celebrated like the 100th anniversary of Vista Radio’s CJCS in Stratford, Ontario.
On this year-end episode of Broadcast Dialogue – The Podcast, we sit down with our publisher Shawn Smith, the president of Momentum Media, to reflect on 2024 and his thoughts on the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for the broadcast industry in 2025.
