Alistair Hepburn named DGC National Executive Director

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has named Alistair Hepburn as its new National Executive Director.

Hepburn, who takes up the position starting Feb. 2, arrives from ACTRA Toronto where he has served as Executive Director since 2021 and been with the organization for a decade, previously serving as Director of Film, Television and Digital Media. He’s been working in the cultural sector for three decades, including past roles at the Canadian Actors’ Equity Association and Toronto’s Canadian Stage Company.

In its announcement, DGC called Hepburn “a committed advocate for the arts” with “extensive expertise in collective bargaining, contract enforcement, public policy, advocacy, and advancing sustainable growth.”

“I am thrilled and honoured to be joining DGC National,” said Hepburn. “The Guild plays a vital role in strengthening our industry from coast to coast to coast, and I am excited to contribute to an organization that is both artist-driven and future-focused. I look forward to working closely with members, staff, and elected leadership to advance the Guild’s mandate and help build a team that is resilient and prepared for all opportunities and challenges. I look forward to working together on a strong and sustainable future for our industry.”

DGC Associate National Executive Director Catherine Middleton will continue to serve as Interim Executive Director until February.
